Today we back tracked and headed back to Reykjavik, stopping near Vik for the night. The itinerary for today actually says, "Stop anywhere missed". Well, we missed the Canyon yesterday so let's go! We also booked tickets for the world's only live lava show.
Fjaoargljufur Canyon - Ok, this is one of my favorite spots and I can not believe I skipped it last time. After re-energizing with our PB and J's (again) we made our way up. The hike is short and beautiful, with many view points and photo spots along the way. The pictures speak for themselves. It doesn't take long, but you can definitely spend time here on a good day. We couldn't have had better weather.

Smiðjan Brugghús - We stopped here to get some food and good beer before the lava show. Very nice atmosphere and great food.
Lava Show in Vik - The kids loved every minute of this show. To say they were in awe is an understatement. My shy 6 year old was even raising his hand asking questions when time allowed. I highly recommend this for kids and adults as it is so interesting and educational. Especially if you're looking to get warm on a cold day. You will be shedding all your layers during showtime.

Solheimasandor Plane Crash - We were lucky to make it here for the last shuttle to the plane. The driver said he can take us but can not bring us back. If we would've missed this last shuttle we probably would've walked both ways. I wouldn't suggest walking even one way with kids as the distance is very misleading. We will walk back, we said. The kids wanted to play here because it's wide open and we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. It was very surreal. Just a peaceful evening. The walk back was a struggle, even for us because we ended up giving piggy back rides and shoulder rides. It was exhausting.

Back to the hotel, Sólheimahjáleiga Guesthouse tonight. This hotel is so charming and has a cozy, homey feel. It has spacious rooms and a shared kitchen with games for the kids. Nice staff and restaurant as well.
