It was hard to choose which country my first post would be about. Iceland is not our first trip as a family, but is rich and plentiful in content so I knew it would be great to start with! It is also one of my favorite countries and it's hard describe how insanely beautiful it really is.

I'll start by saying I did a trip here 15 years ago with 2 friends. When I traveled back then, I always booked everything last minute. Flights were free because of my job so we always traveled on a wimb. I bought a Lonely Planet book every time I knew I was going somewhere. I still believe those books are a must. Now I do it differently because I plan far in advance. You have to with kids or things can go downhill fast - IYKYK :) I started planning this trip almost a year ahead. Also, budgeting for 4 instead of just me is no joke and takes that long!

I have a friend who is Icelandic from when I lived in Dubai and she helped me immensely with hotel locations, where to stay, and local spots. I drew up an itinerary and fully intended to skip some things if the kids were tired because. let's just say it was not light. They shocked me when they wanted to do everything. Yes, they had moments but for the most part they were champs. See my next posts for our detailed itinerary.
